Ed Yim
Consultant
Ed Yim is a consultant in the nonprofit performing arts sector with expertise in fundraising, strategic planning, project management, theater, classical music and public media. He offers arts organizations fractional leadership or project consultancy to support them in their work towards a more sustainable and impactful future.
Most recently the Chief Content Officer and Senior Vice President of WQXR, Yim was responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision that helped WQXR reach a broader, more inclusive audience, drove digital innovation, bolstered the station’s role in New York City’s arts and culture ecosystem, and increased WQXR’s relevance and service to the city’s communities. Under his leadership, WQXR formulated a new strategic plan that focused on developing younger audiences for classical music, partnering with its community’s arts organizations and building a new portfolio of podcasts. He was also responsible for managing the station’s operating budget, and fundraising across NYPR’s diversified revenue base of members, donors, and sponsors.
Yim came to WQXR from American Composers Orchestra (ACO), where he served as President and CEO. During his tenure, ACO strengthened its mission to commission, perform, promote, and celebrate orchestral music by American composers — with particular focus on female-identifying, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming artists, Black and Latinx artists, and immigrant artists. He also led a strategic planning process that focused on partnerships, composer recruitment and a more expansive performance venue strategy. As a result, the organization was able to erase an accumulated deficit and improve fundraising by 20% over three years.
Prior to ACO, Yim held senior positions at several of the nation’s most significant music institutions, including the New York Philharmonic, New York City Opera, IMG Artists, and The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. He holds an BA in Government from Harvard College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University with additional training through the National Arts Strategies CEO Program and Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives on Nonprofit Management course. Board service includes young artist focused Concert Artists Guild (where he also led the most recent strategic plan) and Vision Into Art, an incubator for interdisciplinary performing arts projects.
